Aggies Defeat Oklahoma In Big 12 Home Opener, 4-3

The No. 21 Texas A&M men?™s tennis team withstood the elements and a change of venue to hold off No. 61 Oklahoma, 4-3, Friday night in its Big 12 Conference home opener.
Once again, strong singles play carried the Aggies (10-6, 1-1) as freshman Kayvon Karimi (Dallas, Texas) won by default after Oklahoma?™s Ionut Beleleu was injured in doubles. Straight-set victories from freshman Austin Krajicek (Brandon, Fla.) and senior Matt Bain (Georgetown, Texas) put A&M up 3-1 prior to a rain delay, which sent the dual match indoors to the City of Bryan Indoor Tennis Center.
After making the move indoors, Wil Spencer (Ponce de Leon, Fla.) finished off Sergey Avdeyev, 6-3, 7-6 (5) at the No. 2 line to clinch the match for the Aggies.
Oklahoma then won the remaining two matches as Andrei Daescu downed Conor Pollock (San Antonio, Texas), 6-4, 6-4, and Federico Chavarria held off Chris Chirico (Philadelphia, Pa.), 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Oklahoma (5-8, 0-1) had taken a 1-0 lead to begin the match by winning two of the three doubles matches. A&M won at the No. 2 line after an injury forced the Sooners to default.
A&M continues league play against No. 23 Oklahoma State (9-6, 1-1) on Sunday, March 30 at the Mitchell Center. First serve between the Aggies and Cowboys is set for 1 p.m. OSU suffered a 6-1 loss at fifth-ranked Texas Friday.
