ESPNU announced Sunday night that it has selected to air the NCAA Softball Super Regional matchup between the No. 5-seed Texas A&M Aggies (52-7) and the No. 12-seed Stanford Cardinal (49-13) set to begin Saturday at the Aggie Softball Complex.
The first game of the best-of-three series is scheduled for an 8 p.m. (Central) start time. The second game is slated for Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with the third game beginning at 4:30 p.m. if necessary.
Stanford pitcher Missy Penna and A&M pitcher Megan Gibson both recorded no-hitters on Sunday to lead their respective teams to a NCAA Super Regional berth.
Behind Gibson?™s dominance in the circle, A&M played the minimum three games in the College Station Regional defeating SFA (2-0) and La Tech (4-0, 6-0). The Aggies have now advanced to the super regional in three of the last four seasons, hosting all three.
The Cardinal played four games en route to its third super regional appearance in the last four seasons. Stanford defeated UMass on Friday (3-0) and Lehigh on Saturday (4-0). In the first game on Sunday UMass posted a 2-0 victory before the Cardinal pounded out six runs on 11 hits and Penna quieted the Minutewomen?™s bats for the 6-0 shutout.
