Aggies place second in each Iowa Open race
Iowa City, Iowa - Starting the 2008 season in a three-team meet hosted by the University of Iowa, the Texas A&M cross country teams each placed second on the Ashton course.
Kevin Ondrasek led a trio of Aggies placing among the top 10 in the men's race. A&M scored 43 points behind the 18 points from Iowa as Wichita State finished third with 79 points.
In the women's race a pair of juniors from Texas A&M paced the team with top 10 performances. Christina Munoz, an NCAA qualifier last season, covered the 3,000-meter course in 10:35.52 to place third overall in a field of 34 runners.
In covering the men's 6,000-meter course in 18:55.38, Ondrasek placed fourth overall among a field of 33 runners. Iowa swept the top three places on its home course, led by Nick Holmes (18:33.23).
Also placing in the top 10 for the Aggie men were Mitch Bible and Kevin Burnett. Bible finished sixth (19:01.79) while Burnett was eighth (19:24.99).
The Aggie women totaled 56 points to finish behind Iowa's 24 while Wichita State totaled 61 in third place. Kellyn Johnson of Wichita won the race in 10:18.86 while Iowa's Rachael Marchand finished second in 10:25.83.
Elizabeth Slaughter was the second A&M runner in the top 10 of the women's race, clocking 11:00.00 for 10th place. Alie Cornell finished 14th in 11:13.07.

The next batch of Aggie women to finish the course was led by Leigh Berger, 11:28.41; 25. Brooke Upshaw, 11:35.20; 27. Sarah Balfour, 11:37.90; 29. Kirsten Brown, 11:41.99; 31. Emilie Fischer, 11:54.19.
Texas A&M will compete in San Marcos next week (Sept. 6) at the Texas State Classic. Then on the following Saturday, Sept. 13, the Aggies will host the annual Texas A&M Invitational on campus.
