COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP)--Khris Middleton scored 17 points and No. 19 Texas A&M shook off a sluggish start to beat Prairie View A&M 84-59 on Wednesday night.
Middleton hit consecutive 3-pointers during a key surge late in the first half that put the Aggies (6-1) in control.
Michael Griffin had 16 points for Prairie View (3-3), which scored the first six points of the game and opened a 15-6 advantage nearly four minutes in.
The Aggies grabbed their first lead at 23-21 with 4:29 remaining in the first half and never looked back. They built a 35-25 lead at the break, outscoring Prairie View 18-4 over the final 7:09.
Middleton, a freshman, made a pair of 3s during that span and senior Donald Sloan added a layup and four free throws to help boost Texas A&M to its double-digit halftime lead before 9,151 fans at Reed Arena.
A&M Notes: *Freshmen Khris Middleton (17) and Naji Hibbert (11) each had their first double-figure scoring game against Prairie View A&M. *Middleton made 4-of-8 three-pointers and Hibbert was 2-of-4 *Middleton also added a team-high 7 rebounds. *A&M made a season-high 12 three-pointers, tying for the fourth most in a game in school history. The Aggies' 31 three-point attempts were the second most in school history and the most since they shot 33 against Wisconsin-Green Bay in 1995. *A&M has won 46 straight non-conference home games since losing to St. Joseph's (58-51) in the 2005 NIT quarterfinals. The Aggies have won 59 straight regular-season non-conference home games since losing to A&M-Corpus Christi (82-80) on Dec. 13, 2003.
