LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The No. 20-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team faces it toughest test of the season starting on Friday at the Southern Highlands Intercollegiate at Southern Highlands Golf Course.
The tournament continues through Sunday. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
The formidable 15-team field includes 10 nationally-ranked schools, including six top-10 squads. Joining the Aggies are top-ranked Georgia, No. 2 Southern California, No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Clemson, No. 7 Florida, No. 9 Arizona State, No. 11 Georgia Tech, No. 15 Texas, No. 19 UCLA, Arizona, Auburn, Charlotte, California and host UNLV.
Representing A&M will be senior Bronson Burgoon, sophomore Andrea Pavan, sophomore Nacho Elvira and freshman Jordan Russell. Sophomore John Hurley will play as an individual.
The Aggies have won three of four tournaments this season, including the Burns Intercollegiate last month in Hawaii. Burgoon is ranked No. 10 nationally by Golfweek.
"The Vegas tournament is as good as it gets in college golf," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "The course is outstanding, challenging all parts of your game including poise, patience, mental toughness and course management. The greens are always firm and fast and in order to be successful, you have to have complete control over your golf ball as well as your emotions because it will be set up hard and the conditions (the wind always blows out there) can cause some frustration.
"On top of that, the field is deep and strong," Higgins said. "Most of the teams are ranked in the Top 25 and everyone wants to play well in this tournament. Fortunately, we have been playing well and we have had our share of wind the last couple of weeks so I think we are as prepared as we have ever been heading into this event. We are looking forward to a great week of golf and hopefully another strong showing."
