BOCA RATON, Fla. - The No. 18 Texas A&M softball team fell to Purdue, 3-1, in its second game of the day on Saturday at the FAU Parents' Weekend Classic.
The Aggies (21-10) blanked Liberty earlier, 1-0, before dropping a tight game to the Boilermakers (12-5).
The game was scoreless through four-and-a-half innings until the bottom of the fifth when Purdue's Katie Mitchell hit an RBI single to left to plate Kelly Miller from second. Miller led off with a single and moved to second when Liane Horiuchi was hit by a pitch.
Junior Alex Reynolds broke up a no-hitter by Suzie Rzegocki with a single through the left side in the top of the sixth.
In the bottom of the inning, the Boilermakers loaded the bases with three singles before Horiuchi was hit by a pitch again to score one. A sacrifice fly by Candace Curtis plated a second run to put Purdue up 3-0.
Sophomore Erin Glasco scored Tovar on a groundout to the right side to plate an A&M run, but Rzegocki fanned her 11th batter to end the game.
The Boilermakers threatened from the get go as Horiuchi led-off with a double to left field. She advanced to third on her 18th stolen base of the season, but did not move any further as sophomore pitcher Rhiannon Kliesing forced a groundout, strikeout and infield pop fly to get out of the inning unharmed.
The Aggies moved runners into scoring position in five innings, including a bases loaded opportunity in the top of the fourth. A&M left 10 runners on base in the contest.
Kliesing earned the loss in the circle after allowing three runs on seven hits. The Pearland, Texas, native struck out six and allowed two walks. Rzegocki struck out a career-high 11 and gave up one run on two hits while allowing six walks and hitting three batters.
