COLUMBIA, Mo. - A five-run Missouri first inning would prove the difference in the game as No. 3 Texas A&M fell to the Tigers, 6-2, Saturday afternoon before 1,147 fans at Taylor Stadium.
The loss, A&M's fifth in a row, dropped the Aggies to 13-9 and 2-3 in Big 12 play, while the Tigers improved to 11-10 and 3-2.
Three of the five Tiger runs off Aggie starter Alex Wilson (2-3) in the first came with two outs.
With one down and the bases loaded, Greg Folgia hit a comebacker to Wilson, who turned and threw to second for the second out of the inning. The Aggies could not turn the double play, however, and Michael Liberto scored to give MU a 1-0 lead. Wilson then balked in Trevor Coleman from third and, after a walk, back-to-back base hits by Steve Gray--an RBI single to left center--and Kyle Mach--a two-run double to the gap in left center--made the score 5-0.
A&M answered back in the second, as Brett Parsons' second home run of the season--a solo shot just to the left of the high wall in center field--put the Aggies on the board.
Another two-out double for Mizzou got the run back, as Gray's shot into left center in the third bumped the Tiger lead to 6-1.
A&M would add a run in the sixth. After back-to-back one-out singles by Kyle Colligan and Luke Anders put runners at the corners, Mizzou pitcher Kyle McCormick uncorked a wild pitch to plate Colligan with what would be the game's final run.
Luke Anders and Nick Fleece had two hits apiece to lead the A&M offense, while Gray and Kyle Mach drove in two runs apiece for the Tigers. Each team had seven hits on the afternoon.
Wilson allowed six hits and six runs over 6 2/3 innings of work. After allowing the two-run double to Mach in the first, Wilson would retire 17 of the final 20 batters he faced. He walked three and struck out six on the afternoon.
Shane Minks combined for 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief for Texas A&M.
Ian Berger (2-2) would pick up the victory, despite throwing only the first inning, as the Tigers used nine pitchers on the afternoon--one in each frame.
The series concludes Sunday with first pitch set for 1 p.m., and A&M will send sophomore Barret Loux (0-0, 4.71 ERA) to the hill. The game can be heard on WTAW-AM 1620 or worldwide free of charge on aggieathletics.com and radioaggieland.com.
