COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Members of Texas A&M's 1999 Big 12 Champion and College World Series baseball team will be honored prior to Saturday's game against Nebraska at Olsen Field as part of the team's 10-year reunion festivities.
Fans wishing to welcome the team back to Aggieland are encouraged to arrive prior to a pregame ceremony, scheduled for around 6:15 p.m.
Among the players scheduled to be in attendance are Chris Fulbright, Sean Heaney, Daylan Holt, Chad Hudson, Dell Lindsey, Greg Porter, Chris Russ, Steve Scarborough, John Scheschuk, Kenny Sundstrom, Steven Truitt and Matt Ward.
The '99 Aggies rode one of the most prolific offenses in school history to a 52-18 record and the school's second straight Big 12 title. The team, which featured seven all-conference players and four All-Americans, still holds the single-season records for hits (804), doubles (166), home runs (125) and total bases (1,396). They also hold Big 12 records for most wins in a league season (23) and highest winning percentage (.793).
Multiple individual records still stand from that year, including Casey Fossum's 162 strikeouts and Holt's 34 home runs and 105 RBIs.
A&M staved off elimination three times in NCAA Regional play, defeating Long Beach State twice on the final day to advance, before downing Clemson in Super Regional action to earn a trip to Omaha. The decisive third game with the Tigers went down as one of the most memorable in Olsen Field history, as the Aggies smashed two ninth-inning home runs and held off a Clemson rally in the bottom half of the frame to earn the World Series berth.
Tickets for the game can be purchased online at aggieathletics.com or by calling 888-99-AGGIE. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance and arrive early at the stadium, as long lines and a capacity crowd are expected in conjunction with the annual Parents Weekend festivities.
The reunion is the first of three scheduled for the next few weeks. The 1959 SWC Champion team will be honored at the Oklahoma State game on Saturday, April 25, and the legendary '89 squad will be recognized at the game against the Cowboys the following afternoon (April 26).
