COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M softball student assistant coach and two-time All-American Amanda Scarborough is traveling to Los Angeles this weekend to be an ESPN analyst for the NCAA Super Regional featuring No. 2 seed UCLA and Missouri.
From Magnolia, Texas, Scarborough dreamed of a job with ESPN and now joins Justin Kutcher (play-by-play) to call all the action in the best-of-three-game series at Easton Stadium.
The first game is broadcast on ESPNU Saturday at 8:30 p.m. followed by a 2:30 p.m. contest on Sunday and if necessary, a third game immediately following at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
"I'm really excited for this great opportunity," said Scarborough. "It's something that I've really wanted to do for a long time and without Texas A&M and Aggie softball this experience wouldn't have been possible."
In preparation for her trip out west, Scarborough got the chance to eat lunch with well-known ESPN broadcasters Beth Mowin, Jessica Mendoza and Michelle Smith prior to the Aggies' 6-1 win at Texas.
In addition, Scarborough traveled to Charlotte, N.C., where ESPNU is based, to meet with ESPN producer Casey Carter and coordinating producer Meg Reintjes for an inside look at the production of college softball.
Scarborough had been in contact with Reintjes during her senior year at Texas A&M.
"I wanted an internship with ESPN the spring of my senior year, but then I got hurt and nothing really came of it," said Scarborough. "Meg (Reintjes) was the person from ESPN that I was in contact with then."
Reintjes reconnected with Scarborough earlier this season about the opportunity to be an analyst at a super regional and Scarborough jumped at the opportunity.
ESPNU is available through Suddenlink channel 126, Dish Network channel 148 and DirecTV channel 609. The Los Angeles Super Regional can also be viewed online at ESPN360.com.
