COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Former Texas A&M softball player Erin Glasco recently signed with the USSSA Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) and makes her professional debut this summer.
A native of Johnston City, Ill., Glasco received a call from the Pride the night before the Texas A&M softball team traveled to Gainesville, Fla., for its 20th NCAA Regional appearance. She signed the contract to play professionally a week later.
"I'm very excited to play with the Pride," said Glasco. "It's such a great opportunity to be able to compete with the best softball players in the nation and playing for Texas A&M helped me achieve this dream."
One of two senior co-captains for A&M in '09, Glasco led the team with a .479 on base percentage. She was a steady force in Big 12 play with a team-best .316 batting average earning her All-Big 12 first team honors. Glasco was also named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Central All-Region team and the Big 12 All-Tournament team in 2008.
Glasco started nearly every game behind the plate her two seasons at A&M, posting a .278 career batting average with 88 hits, 21 doubles, six home runs and 58 RBIs.
Glasco is the third Aggie currently playing in the NPF. Jamie Lobpries and Megan Gibson are members of the Philadelphia Force. The former teammates will reunite as their NPF teams collide for a five-game series beginning July 22.
As a member of the USSSA Pride, which will play its first season in Kissimmee, Fla., Glasco is now teammates with several members of the U.S. National Team, including Monica Abbott, Kelly Kretschman and Caitlin Lowe.
The Pride opens its season today (June 10) against the Chicago Bandits at 7:05 p.m. CT. Fans can watch the game with a live webcast by visiting www.usssapride.com/livegame/.
