MARANA, Ariz. - After Texas A&M took an early 2-0 lead, New Mexico rallied to take the final three matches to claim a 3-2 victory in Monday's semifinals at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship.
Southern California beat Colorado State, 3-2, in the other semifinal and will face New Mexico in Tuesday's championship match. The Aggies will battle USC for third place.
A&M's Andrea Pavan (2 and 1), Travis Ross downed Cameron Peck (2 and 1) and John Catlin edged Jordan Russell (1 up) by winning the final hole.
"It was a terrific match," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "I thought New Mexico played extremely well but it was a disappointing loss. Conrad Shindler was terrific and Nacho played pretty well, but as a team we didn't play great golf. We just made too many mental errors. New Mexico halved holes with bogeys and won holes with pars, and that¹s just not the way we play. We're going to work on that, come back tomorrow and try to win the third place match."
