STILLWATER, Okla. - Barret Loux tossed a complete-game shutout to lead Texas A&M to a 7-0 win over Oklahoma State Friday night in the series opener before 397 fans at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Loux (9-2) allowed four hits and a walk while fanning seven in the first complete game of his career. Only one Cowboy runner got to second base on the night.
The Aggies (31-18-1, 10-11-1 Big 12) won for the ninth time in 11 games, while OSU fell to 28-21 and 8-14.
"It all started tonight with Barret Loux," A&M coach Rob Childress said. "He got us off to a good start, we were able to take the lead in the second and build on it in the fifth. We played very good defense and Barret was in total control the whole game. That was as good a performance as I've ever seen him have. It's good to get that first one on the road."
Loux's tremendous start on the mound was complimented by a three-RBI performance from Kevin Gonzalez and a four-hit game from Tyler Naquin, as A&M pounded out 14 hits on the night.
Adam Smith and Gonzalez went back-to-back off Cowboy starter Mike Strong to open the second inning and start the scoring. A&M would plate its third run of the frame on a wild pitch.
Then in the fifth, Gonzalez delivered a two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded to put the Aggies up five. He would steal second and Matt Juengel would score two pitches later as the throw down went into center field, making the score 6-0.
A&M would add its final run on a double play in the ninth.
Along with Gonzalez and Naquin, Brodie Greene went 3-for-5 and Smith added a pair of hits.
Strong (4-3) took the loss, giving up nine hits and six runs (five earned) over 4.1 innings. He walked one and fanned three.
The series continues on Saturday with first pitch set for 2 p.m. Sophomore Ross Stripling (5-3, 4.16 ERA) is scheduled to face OSU junior Brad Propst (2-1, 3.96). Fans can listen to the game on WTAW-AM 1620 or worldwide on radioaggieland.com.
