COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M softball player Meagan May was named to the 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-America second team, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on Wednesday.
May, a freshman catcher from Spring, Texas, set the Texas A&M and the Big 12 single season home run records with 24 long balls this year. She was honored as a member of the Central All-Region first team, the All-Big 12 first team, the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament team and was a two-time Big 12 Player of the Week. Most recently, May was chosen to the NCAA Baton Rouge All-Regional Team after leading her squad to championship Sunday.
May posted a team-leading .405 batting average, 66 hits, 16 doubles, 24 home runs, 62 RBIs, 51 walks, a .945 slugging percentage and a .557 on base percentage. She led the league in six offensive categories and is ranked nationally in seven. She also placed herself at the top of several additional A&M single season records including total bases, slugging percentage, RBIs (2nd) and walks (2nd). May is already ranked seventh on the Aggie career home run list.
May is one of 19 all-time A&M softball players on 31 occasions to receive All-America honors. She is one of just six Aggies to earn the top distinction in her freshman campaign. Joining May on that list are former standouts Lori Stoll (1981-83), Shawn Andaya (1984-87), Julie Smith (1987-88), Amanda Scarborough (2005-08).
This summer, May joins the 2010 USA Softball Women's Futures National Team. As a member of the Futures Team, May will play exhibition games against the 2010 USA Softball Women's National Team June 16-17. She will also compete against the National Teams of Canada, Japan and the USA at the 2010 World Cup of Softball, July 22-26. May will also fill spots on the USA team competing at the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship, July 7-11, and exhibition games in Whitehorse, Yukon, July 13-14.
