TUCSON, Ariz. - Texas A&M pitchers John Stilson and Barret Loux were named to the Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American Baseball teams, announced Wednesday by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Stilson was named to the second team, while Loux earned third-team honors.
Stilson, the Big 12's Newcomer of the Year, is one of the top closers in the country. A native of Texarkana, Stilson is 8-1 with a 0.87 ERA and nine saves this spring. In 31 appearances, he has fanned 106 hitters and allowed seven earned runs in 72.1 innings of work, and is holding batters to a .172 average.
Loux (pronounced LOWCKS), a first-team All-Big 12 selection, enters the postseason with a 10-2 record and a 2.53 ERA. The junior from Houston leads the Big 12 and ranks near the top of the national charts with 126 strikeouts, and is holding opposing hitters to a .196 average. Loux has started all 15 series openers for the Aggies in 2010.
They become the 48th and 49th players, respectively, in program history to earn All-America accolades. Stilson and Loux bring the total under fifth-year head coach Blake Stouffer (2007), Brandon Hicks (2007), Jose Duran (2008) and Brooks Raley (2009).
Texas pitchers Chance Ruffin and Cole Green were the Big 12's lone representatives on the first team, while UT's Brandon Workman joined Stilson as the only Big 12ers to earn second-team honors. Loux, Missouri's Aaron Senne and Kansas State's Nick Martini made the third team. A complete list can be found at www.baseballnews.com.
