HEAD COACH Mark Turgeon
This was another good win for us, I thought Tech really played well the first half, when we would make a run, they would hit a big shot. I thought they were a lot tougher than us in the first half.
Our defense was just tremendous until the 1:56 of the second half. I'm not sure what they were shooting until the very end. Their guys were just really good dialed in.
To be 4-4 four weeks ago and wondering where we're going to go, then to finish 10-6, I'm pretty proud of them.
On the defense...Our defense is just at another level right now, the last eight games, our defense has been really good.
On Loubeau being good down low...It helps everything, it creates double teams. He made some tough shots, some that bounced in and gave him confidence. He played with pretty good intelligence and pretty good spacing. It was fun watching them share the ball like that.
How big is it to finish 10-6 in conference...The two teams ahead of us have some really good players and really good coaches. And the teams behind us have pretty good coaches and players. The highest we were picked was sixth. This team is really determined, we have winners.
Did you worry about the seniors being selfish on senior night...I wasn't worried about our seniors, they've been unselfish all year. I wasn't worried that our guys were going to get selfish, they've been unbelievably unselfish. The thing you have to remember is they could've gone somewhere else when I took the job, and they stuck with us.
How good do you feel about this team going into the Big 12 tournament...I feel really good about it. We're really defending, we have a little health, Ray is healthy, Naji is coming along. I was sitting here a few weeks ago and didn't have much confidence.
On Pat Knight's coaching...They're playing really well, I think he needs a chance to coach his own players, I think he needs a chance to coach all guys he's recruited. Sometimes that helps. Down the stretch, they've really played as hard as anyone.
SENIOR FORWARD Nathan Walkup
On your emotions of the day...Mixed emotions. You know it's your last time to play in the arena. It was a good day, a fun win, good to see family and friends here.
On David Loubeau playing so well...It's huge. We can throw the ball with 10 seconds left and know we're going to get a high percentage shot. It opens up the floor, makes them help down, and we get more driving room and open shots.
On making 3-pointers...It felt good. It's always a good night when you get the ball in the hole. I was open both times, and luckily I was able to hit them.
The thing you'll miss most...Playing in front of your family, that's always been it for me.
Favorite moment...A couple of road wins, Josh's shot at Nebraska, the whole New York trip my freshman year was huge, we won that tournament. Whenever you can celebrate with your team, it's probably the best times.
SENIOR GUARD B.J. Holmes
On emotions of the day...It was just great. Fans came up and showed their appreciation. It was fun to have family and friends. I think we had fun tonight. I think we went out the right way.
On the history of winning...I think it shows where we've come from, how it's sustained. Before I got here, (the earlier teams) put us on the map, and they did a good job of keeping us where we're at and trying to go further.
On letting junior David Loubeau have his night...Coach sat the 5 seniors down and told us it's not about us, it's about the team. We all bought into it. They weren't doubling him at first, we're confident with Dave getting the ball on the block.
What will you miss the most...The fans.
On the best moments...We had a scavenger hunt not too long ago, everyone thought it was going to be kiddy and childish, but it was probably the thing I'll take away. It really gave us a chance to get to know each other in depth.
JUNIOR FORWARD David Loubeau
On scoring down low...They weren't doubling, so I was just getting the ball down low and doing my best to score.
On getting dunks... B.J. and Dash were doing a great job finding me in transition, Nathan too as well. Those guys did a good job of getting me the ball.
TEXAS TECH POSTGAME QUOTES
HEAD COACH PAT KNIGHT
On A&M's defense...They got into us pretty good on defense, and that's going to cause you some problems.
On missing shots...We didn't shoot well, but I don't want to take anything away from Texas A&M. If we don't miss a dunk, we're only down by 8 and it's a totally different ball game. We had our chances, we just didn't capitalize.
