
A&M grad Simone Facey earns silver at Pan Am Games

GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- Texas A&M graduate Simone Facey earned a silver medal for Jamaica in the women's 200-meter final at the Pan American Games on Thursday evening. A time of 22.86 seconds placed Facey runner-up to the 22.76 winning time posted by Brazil's Ana Lemos da Silva.
Facey, who is also scheduled to be part of the Jamaica 4 x 100 relay, ran 22.99 to place second in her heat of the semifinals held on Wednesday when Lemos da Silva won the race in 22.72. The meet record for the 200 is a time of 22.45 set by Evelyn Ashford back in 1979.
Thursday's action also had Aggie senior Bryan Miller running the opening leg of the United States 4 x 400 relay during semifinal action. The Americans qualified for Friday's final with a time of 3:07.57 that placed them third in the second of two heats. Cuba claimed the heat in 3:04.33 with Venezuela runner-up in 3:04.67 while the Bahamas were fourth in 3:09.68.
The United States will start the 4 x 400 final from lane eight with Jamaica in seven and the Bahamas in lane one.
On Tuesday, Texas A&M volunteer assistant coach Noah Bryant placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 63-1 3/4 (19.23). Canada's Dylan Armstrong defended his 2007 title and broke the Pan American Games record with a mark of 69-10 3/4 (21.30).
