Oct 29, 2011 | Women's Swimming and Diving
The Aggies had nine individual wins on the day, seven on the swimming side and two on the diving side, and one relay win.
"This was a good solid win for our team," A&M Head Coach Steve Bultman said. "We've been working hard, and I was pleased to see that the team stepped up and swam well in our first event of the season."
A pair of sophomores, Breeja Larson and Cammile Adams, led the Aggies in the lanes with a pair of individual victories each.
Larson won both breaststroke events on the night, taking first in the 100-yard (1:00.89) and the 200-yard (2:10.37) races.
"Breeja has been working really hard," said Bultman. "She raced really well and had some really outstanding swims."
Adams posted first place times in both the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.52) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.99).
Also grabbing first place finishes for A&M individually was junior Maureen McLaine in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:51.47), sophomore Paige Miller in the 100-yard backstroke (55.02) and senior Erica Dittmer in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.55). The Aggies also finished first in the 400 freestyle relay to cap off the evening with a time of 3:26.68.
In the diving well, the Aggies took first and second place in both the 1-meter springboard and 3-meter springboard events.
Leading the way was senior Jaele Patrick, who scored wins in both the 1-meter (324.08) and the 3-meter (370.95) boards.
Junior transfer from LSU Rebecca St. Germain finished in second place on the 1-meter springboard with a score of 295.72 and finished fourth in the 3-meter event with a score of 323.18.
Senior diver Janie Potvin took second in the 3-meter (342.68) and fifth in the 1-meter (278.02) as well.
Bultman said that the divers really helped the team in this win.
"Coach Lerew has a really talented group of divers this year," said Bultman. "It's always good for us to get that kind of support from the diving side of the team as well."
Next up for the Aggies is some more dual meet action in Austin, Texas against the rival Longhorns of the University of Texas Friday, Nov. 4.
