The Texas A&M women's swim team dropped a point in the Lonestar Showdown as they fell to Texas 197-103 Friday at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas.
The Aggies took their first individual event of the evening in the 100-yard breaststroke, when sophomore Breeja Larson touched first with a season best time of 59.73.
In the meet's opening race, the 200-yard medley relay, the Aggies took the lead after sophomore Breeja Larson pull in front in her breaststroke leg. Texas pulled out the win however when Texas senior Karlee Bispo out touched A&M senior Erica Dittmer.
Larson lowered her season bests in two events as she touched first in both the 100-yard (59.73) and the 200-yard (2:10.25) breaststrokes. Her pair of victories led the Aggies in the lanes.
“We had some great swims today, although in terms of places we could've done better,” said A&M head coach Steve Bultman. “Breeja's 100 breaststroke was a great swim. 59.7 at this point in the year is a great swim.”
In the 1-meter springboard event, the Aggies took first and second place behind a seniors Jaele Patrick (327.08) and Janie Potvin (324.38). Junior transfer Rebecca St. Germain (274.43) picked up a fourth for A&M as well.
On the 3-meter boards, Patrick took another first place finish and stayed undefeated on the season with a score of 377.93. Potvin took third place behind Patrick with a score of 315.90.
A&M head diving coach Jay Lerew said that Patrick had yet another great performance tonight.
“I was very happy,” Lerew said. “She's coming off of a serious injury last season and has handled it very well mentally. She's poised to win an NCAA championship while she's here and she's on. She can do it.”
Her scores in the both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events were new season highs for Patrick, while Potvin set a new season mark in the 1-meter.
The Aggies return to action Nov. 16-18 at the Tennessee Invitational in Knoxville.
