BATON ROUGE, La. --- The No. 25 Texas A&M women's golf team continued its strong play at the LSU Classic on Saturday and enters the final round within five shots of the lead.
The Aggies are in eighth place at 30-over after finishing the second round with a 20-over 308. A&M is looking up at No. 1 Alabama, Arkansas, No. 7 Virginia and No. 17 Wake Forest, who are all tied for the team lead at 25-over, No. 4 Duke (+26), No. 18 Tennessee (+26) and No. 5 LSU (+29).
"We dropped some in the team standings, but I was so proud of our focus in the second round," Aggie head coach Trelle McCombs said. "It got windy in the afternoon, but I attribute the scores today to playing a seven-and-a-half hour round. I had all five of my players on the 18th tee (because of the slow play). We waited so long between shots, but I was so proud of our focus despite the waiting. We're right there in the mix again, which is where we want to be and we're excited about the challenge on Sunday."
Scoring for the Aggies on Saturday were freshmen Katerina Ruzickova and Natalie Reeves at 3-over, senior Sarah Zwartynski at 4-over, and sophomore Susy Grunden at 10-over.
The freshman duo of Ruzickova and Reeves both fired 75s and pace the Aggies in the team standings at a tie for 16th at 6-over. Zwartynski is right behind in a tie for 22nd at 7-over after contributing a 76. Grunden is tied for 46th at 11-over after shooting an 82. Freshman Chelsea Mocio is tied for 100th after posting an 84.
The Aggies will resume play on Sunday beginning at 8:45 from the 10th hole, and will be paired with Mississippi and UNC-Wilmington.
