COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Junior first baseman Jacob House went 4-for-5 and tied a career high with four RBI Tuesday night at Olsen Field as the No. 11 Texas A&M baseball team earned a 15-5 victory over No. 25 Texas State.
Texas A&M (33-16) wasted no time jumping on Texas State starter Travis Bellow (3-2) as the Aggies scored four runs during their first turn at bat. House plated the contest's first tally with an RBI single to left center and was followed by designated hitter Gregg Alcazar, who sharply singled into right field to score a second A&M run. The base knock was part of a 2-for-4 night at the plate for Alcazar, who drove in a pair of runs and scored two himself.
Sophomore outfielder Brandon Wood and senior shortstop Kenny Jackson also drove in runs during the bottom of the first as the Aggies raced out to a 4-0 lead in support of starter Derrick Hadley.
Hadley, however, struggled at times with his command on Tuesday night and excited in the third inning after allowing the Bobcats to score four runs and tie the game. The freshman right-hander from Navasota was charged with four earned runs on six hits, while striking out two and walking one.
Texas State (31-17) took a 5-4 lead on a RBI double from second baseman Tyler Sibley in the top of the fourth, but the rest of the night would belong to the Aggies, who plated 11 unanswered runs to earn their seventh victory over a ranked opponent this season.
Four runs came home in the bottom of the fourth as freshman outfielder Krey Bratsen, who turned in a 3-for-4 night with three runs and three RBI, plated a pair of scores with a two-run single. House added a RBI base knock as the Aggies jumped back on top 8-5.
During the inning, sophomore outfielder Tyler Naquin reached on a bunt single to extend his career-best hitting streak to 25 games. He now stands alone in third place for longest hitting streak in Aggie baseball history and continues his pursuit of R.J. Englert, who hit safely in 28 games during the 1972 season to set the school record.
Naquin, who also walked twice in the contest, manufactured another A&M run with a sac fly in the bottom of the fifth before Alcazar and senior catcher Kevin Gonzalez plated runs with back-to-back RBI singles in the sixth inning.
The Aggies put the finishing touches on the night offensively with a four-fun bottom of the eighth that featured RBI from Bratsen and Matt Juengel along with a two-run double by House.
Sophomore lefty Dylan Mendoza (3-2) picked up the win in the contest after relieving Hadley in the third inning and allowing just one run in 1.1 innings of work. Sophomores Brandon Parrent and Kyle Martin along with senior Joaquin Hinojosa each contributed scoreless appearances out of the A&M bullpen.
Texas State, which used nine different pitchers on the night, saw its four-game winning streak come to an end as the Aggie offense pounded out 15 hits while not committing an error in the field.
Texas A&M baseball is back in action this weekend when it puts its first-place Big 12 record on the line by hosting Nebraska in a three-game series at Olsen Field.
