TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association selected Texas A&M outfielder Krey Bratsen as a second team Freshman All-American on Monday.
This marks the second national honor for Bratsen this summer as he was also named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball magazine on June 9.
The Bryan, Texas, native burst onto the scene from day one as a freshman and has started all but one game for the Maroon and White this season as the Aggies captured the Big 12 Championship and advanced the Super Regionals of the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
Bratsen maintains a .335 batting average at the plate which ranks him seventh in the Big 12 and second among league rookies. He's collected five doubles and three triples at the dish while being a run producer by driving in 36 runs and scoring 43.
Among his most memorable games this season was the Aggies' 3-0 victory over Arizona during the championship game of the NCAA College Station Regional. Bratsen broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with a clutch two-out RBI single to drive in the game's opening run and give A&M its sixth regional title and third under head coach Rob Childress.
Additionally, the speedster ranks among the national leaders with 31 stolen bases, a total that places him seventh in A&M single-season history.
In the field Bratsen has also been spectacular, committing only one error on the year to put together a .994 fielding percentage while wowing spectators with a number of diving catches and a trio of outfield assists.
Bratsen and the rest of the Aggies will try to punch their ticket to the 2011 College World Series on Monday night when they face Florida State in a winner-take-all game three of the Tallahassee Super Regional at 6 p.m. (CT) inside Dick Howser Stadium.
