COLLEGE STATION, Texas—Longtime Bryan High coach John Reese has been hired as an assistant on the Texas A&M basketball staff, head coach Billy Kennedy announced Wednesday.
Reese joins the Aggies after 15 years with the Vikings, the last 10 as head coach. In his decade at the helm, he led Bryan to 246 wins, seven district championships and nine playoff appearances.
“I am excited to add John to our staff,” Kennedy said. “His success as a coach and his relationships with high school coaches in Texas and the AAU programs will be a great asset to our program.”
Last season, Reese led the Vikings to a 20-13 record and spot in the area round of the state playoffs. He began his career at the school as an assistant before being named head coach in May 2001.
Reese, who has worked for the Bryan Independent School District for the last 18 years, graduated from Angelo State University with a degree in kinesiology and speech communications. He is a long-time member of the Texas High School Coaching Association and the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Reese and his wife, Celeste, have two sons, Jerron and J-Mychal.
