COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The 12th-ranked Texas A&M women's golf team returns to action this week at the 27th annual Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on the north shore of O'ahu.
The 54-hole tournament is scheduled for 36 holes Tuesday and 18 holes Wednesday at the par-72, 5,907-yard Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course at the Marine Corps Base Hawai'i. Both days begin with a 1 p.m. (CT) shotgun start.
"We're looking forward to getting back out there and competing, and we're very excited to play in Hawai'i," A&M head coach Trelle McCombs said. "We learned a lot from our opening tournament in New Orleans and have worked hard in these last couple weeks on improving our game."
The Aggies are part of a 14-team field that includes Coastal Carolina, Gonzaga, host Hawai'I, UH-Hilo, Idaho, Iowa, Montana State, Northern Colorado, North Texas, Texas State, No. 24 UC Davis, UTEP and Washington State.
Sophomore Katerina Ruzickova (73.13 stroke average) will lead the Aggies into competition this week. Joining her on the course will be junior Mary Michael Maggio (75.13), junior Sarah Beth Davis (75.67), freshman Patricia Garcia (76.83) and junior Susy Grunden (78.25). Junior Aly Smith (79.56) will compete as an individual.
The Aggies return to the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational for the first time since 2009, when they brought home the team title with a score of 907 (306-301-300).
Texas A&M opened the spring season a couple weeks ago with a seventh-place finish in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship. The Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational is the first of back-to-back events for the Aggies over spring break. A&M next competes at the Battle at Ranch Bernardo in San Diego, Calif., March 18-20.
