Aggies Get Revenge With 3-2 Win

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Sophomore Cassie Tysarczyk had two RBI as the No. 21 Texas A&M softball team (14-7) took a comeback victory over Houston (10-9) on the final day of the Texas A&M Invitational.
The Aggies' victory avenged their only loss of the weekend as they finished the tournament with a 4-1 record.
"[Cassie] stepped up huge today," head coach Jo Evans said. "I'm really excited for Cassie. The thing about her is that she's always in it for our team. I just love the way the kid plays. If she's not on the field, she's in the dugout - all about us. She stepped up huge."
A ball squeezed down the left field line by the Cougars gave Houston a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth.
Junior Meagan May got the first hit of the game for the Aggies, slamming a ball into the wall in left field for a single. May was replaced by sophomore pinch runner Kaydee Rayburn who took second on a sacrifice bunt and was joined on base by junior Mel Dumezich, who drew a walk. Both runners were left stranded.
A long ball over the right field fence by Tysarczyk, her first home run of the season, narrowed the gap to 2-1 for the Aggies in the bottom of the fifth.
After holding a Cougar runner at second in the top of the sixth, the Aggies got to work in the bottom of the inning. Senior Natalie Villarreal sent a base hit into left field and advanced to second when the left fielder struggled to pick up the ball. Villarreal was 2-for-3 on the day with a run scored.
Junior Sydney Shannon singled to left field and gave Villarreal time to score while tying the game at 2-2. Dumezich drew her second walk of the day and was followed on base by sophomore Nicole Morgan, who reached on a fielder's choice. With two outs and bases loaded, Tysarczyk went opposite field and plated the 3-2 run with a single to left. The right fielder was 2-for-3 on the day with a run scored and two RBI.
Dumezich fanned two batters in the top of the seventh as Houston went three-up, three-down for the loss. The junior (9-4) hurler threw nine strikeouts and walked one while giving up two earned runs on four hits in seven complete innings for the victory. UH pitcher Diedre Outon (3-2) suffered the loss after allowing three earned runs on six hits in six innings of work.
