COLLEGE STATION — The Texas A&M men's golf team was tabbed this week as the No. 8 squad in the Golfweek men's fall countdown. The rankings are determined by Golfweek college expert Lance Ringler.
Under the guidance of 14th year head coach J.T. Higgins, the Aggies enter the 2014-15 campaign riding an impressive, school-record 12 consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament. Texas A&M has finished in the top 15 at the NCAA Championship in six of the last seven seasons, highlighted by the 2009 National Championship.
The Aggies return a solid core from last season's team including four of the five golfers that represented Texas A&M's lineup at last spring's NCAA Championship.
GolfWeek honorable mention All-American Ben Crancer, who led Texas A&M with a 72.05 scoring average during the 2013-14 season and shared the team lead with five top-10 finishes, highlights the list of returners. Also back this fall are three additional players who each played at least 27 competition rounds a year ago in senior Greg Yates, who also carded five top-10 finishes last year, and juniors Adrià Arnaus and Andrew Lister.
Squad members Charlie Benell, Jake Goodman, Dylan Siebenaler and Mickey Werenski are back after spending time in the program while talented newcomers Connor Black, Cameron Champ, Andrew Paysse, Peter Thorseth and Jacob Veerman join the competition for a spot in the Aggie lineup.
Texas A&M men's golf will kick off its fall schedule on Sunday, Sept. 7, when the team travels to Springfield Township, N.J., to face Princeton in a dual.
