
Five Aggies Earn NSCAA Scholar All-South Region Distinction

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The names of five Aggies spangled the 33-player National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-South Region Team announced this week.
Seniors Shea Groom, Annie Kunz and Meghan Streight were named to the NSCAA Scholar All-South Region First Team, junior Janae Cousineau was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-South Region Second Team and senior Leigh Edwards earned NSCAA Scholar All-South Region Honorable Mention.
Texas A&M led all schools with three First Team honorees as South Carolina was the only other squad with multiple players listed, putting two on the 11-player team. The Aggies were joined by Auburn (3) and Florida State (3) as the only schools with more than two designees.
Groom, who already garnered Capital One Academic All-America distinction from the College Sports Information Directors of America, picked up Scholar All-South Region First Team accolades for the second consecutive season and last season she earned Scholar All-America First Team recognition. She owns a 3.55 grade-point average in Recreation, Park and Tourism Science.
Groom, an NSCAA All-America First Team, the SEC Offensive Player of the Year and a Capital One Academic All-America First Team student-athlete, finished the season with 39 points on 16 goals and seven assists.
For her career, Groom appeared in 85 matches, including 80 starts. Her 41 goals and 107 points both rank sixth on Texas A&M's career charts.
Kunz was named to the Scholar All-South Region Second Team last season. The Golden, Colorado native owns a 3.49 grade-point average in agricultural communications and journalism.
The Golden, Colorado native appeared in 97 games during her career, including 48 starts. She end her career ranked seventh in Aggie history with 39 goals and 10th with 96 points.
Kunz logged 23 points in 2014 with seven goals and nine assists.
Streight is a two-time Scholar All-South Region First Team performer and last season she earned Scholar All-America First Team distinction. Streight, who is set to graduate this week, went into the fall semester with a 3.61 grade-point average in allied health studies.
The McKinney, Texas native started all 101 matches during her career, including 27 on the backline this season. This year, she led a defense that posted a 0.89 goals-against average and nine shutouts.
Streight earned all-conference recognition all four years, including All-SEC First Team status each of the last three years. Streight was A&M's most decorated player during her sophomore season, earning All-SEC First Team as a midfielder and pulling SEC All-Tournament Team, NSCAA All-South Region First Team and NSCAA All-America Third Team honors. As a freshman, she was named All-Big 12 Second Team, Big 12 All-Newcomer, Big 12 All-Tournament Team and NSCAA All-Central Region Third Team.
Cousineau is a first-time honoree. She owns a 3.36 grade-point average in animal science.
Serving as the Aggies' holding midfielder, Cousineau contributed on the offensive end with 14 points on six goals and two assists with all of her goals coming in SEC play and the defensive side where she has played a part in nine shutouts. She earned All-SEC Second Team recognition for her prowess this season.
Edwards was a Scholar All-South Region Second Team performer last season. She boasts a 3.68 grade-point average in political science.
The Coto de Caza, California native appeared in 99 matches during her career, including 67 starts. After moving from the midfield prior to her junior campaign, Edwards started all 52 matches at left back the last two seasons. She ended her career with five goals and 10 assists. She earned All-SEC Second Team honors in 2013.
Texas A&M experienced a historic campaign in 2014, setting a school record for wins on the way to its first-ever College Cup appearance. The Maroon and White went 22-3-2 on the season and won the SEC Double with a regular-season crown and tournament title. The Aggies became the first team to earn the SEC Double in back-to-back seasons since Florida in 2001. They also became the first SEC team since Florida in 2001 to advance to the College Cup.
