Aggies Battle Bayou Bengals Friday in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE – The Texas A&M soccer team remains on the road for Friday's match against the LSU Tigers. First kick against the Bayou Bengals is 7 p.m. at LSU Soccer Stadium.
Texas A&M (4-5-4, 1-4-1 SEC) is unbeaten in its last two matches with a 1-0 victory over Texas and a 0-0 draw at Oklahoma. The Aggies' defense held the Longhorns and Sooners to just five shots-on-goal combined. Maysen Veronda earned both shutouts in goal.
Trinity Buchanan leads the Aggies with four goals, and she has added two assists for a total of 10 points. Leah Diaz also has 10 points with three goals and four assists. Kaylee Noble has nine points on three goals and three assists.
Bella Yakel has played all 1,170 minutes to lead the Aggies. The center back entered the campaign as the most seasoned Texas A&M player, having accumulated 4,132 minutes during her three seasons at Portland. The senior defender has 70 Division I camps on her résumé, including 62 starts. She earned a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week for her efforts last against Texas and Oklahoma.
Freshman Riley Crooks is not far behind, starting all 13 matches on the A&M backline. The Huntington Beach, California, native ranks second on the squad with 1,145 minutes played and she has logged one assist.
The Aggies own a 12-0-4 edge in a series bookended by ties. The initial meeting came at the NCAA Tournament second round in 2009. The teams played to a 1-1 draw with the Maroon & White advancing on penalty kicks, 4-2. The Aggies won the next 12 meetings by a combined tally of 29-5. The teams have played to draws each of the last three seasons, including 2-2 at Ellis Field in both 2022 and 2024 and 0-0 at LSU in 2023.
In their 2024 meeting at Ellis Field, the match was scoreless through 53 minutes before a flurry of goals, including LSU benefiting from a penalty kick opportunity.
