Aggies Wrap Up Stroke Play at Challenge Cup

KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. – The Texas A&M men's golf team wrapped up the stroke play portion of the DICK'S Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup on Saturday. The Aggies finished the 54-hole stroke play at 885, +33 at the par-71 Golf Club of Tennessee to place 10th.
Texas A&M completes action at the Collegiate Challenge Cup with match play on Sunday. The tournament's six ACC squads will be paired with the six SEC squads for the match play. Pairings will be determined at the Celebration Dinner & Match Play Pairings Party on Saturday night at the Loveless Barn.
The Maroon and White fired a 307, +23 on Saturday to go with their rounds of 295 and 283 on Friday.
“That was about as bad as I have ever seen us play,” Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. “It is really disappointing. We didn't execute in any are of the game – physically, mentally or in course management.”
Georgia Tech (290-272-286=848, -4) edged Vanderbilt (280-284-285=849, -3) by one stroke for top honors in stroke play.
Georgia's Lee McCoy (67-69-69=205, -8) was the tournament medalist, edging South Carolina's Will Starke (69-68-69=206, -7) by one stroke.
Aggie junior Adrià Arnaus (72-65-78=215, +2) paced the Aggies in stroke play, finishing tied for 14th place. Arnaus tallied 10 birdies and one eagle in his three rounds, including seven birdies on Friday's second round when he carded a career-low round of 65. Arnaus' eagle came on the 17th hole of the first round on Friday.
Freshman Connor Black (73-67-79=219, +6) was next on the leaderboard for A&M. He finished tied for 23rd place after Saturday's round. Black registered seven birdies over the 54 holes, including five on Friday's second round when he posted a 67, the Aggies' second-best round of the tournament.
Junior Ben Crancer (75-76=227, +14) and junior Andrew Lister (79-75-76=230, +17) logged A&M's best rounds on Saturday, each shooting 76. Crancer had the second of A&M's two eagles at the tournament, notching a three at the par-5 seventh hole. He also logged eight birdies for the tournament, including two on Saturday, to finish tied for 46th place. Lister finished in 57th place. Freshman Andrew Paysse (75-76-77=228, +15) rounded out the A&M fivesome, concluding stroke play tied for 51st place.
