COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Some of the country's top college golfers will put their talents on display this weekend when the ninth-annual Aggie Invitational tees off Saturday morning at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas.
Tee times and opening-day pairings have been set for the tournament with the first Aggies stepping to the tee box at 7:30 a.m. Admission is free for all spectators, who are asked to turn cell phones off and remain on the cart paths or in the rough, while staying at least 15 yards away from the golfers.
After 36 holes of competition on Saturday the tournament concludes with a final 18 holes Sunday morning.
The 2015 Aggie Invitational field consists of 13 teams, seven of which are ranked in the top 50 according to the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Competing this weekend will be Arkansas, Bowling Green, California, Kent State, LSU, Michigan, New Mexico State, North Texas, Oklahoma, Princeton, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and UTSA.
“This a really strong field, especially at the top,” Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. “When you look at LSU, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Cal, they're all top 20 teams who have won tournaments this year. There are a lot of strong teams, LSU comes in here on fire and playing really great golf. We're going to have our work cut out for us competing with these guys this week.”
The Aggies' lineup for the tournament consists of senior Greg Yates, juniors Adrià Arnaus, Ben Crancer and Andrew Lister as well as freshman Andrew Payssee. In addition, A&M golfers Charlie Benell, Connor Black, Jake Goodman and Mickey Werenski will compete as individuals
“We've been a little hit or miss this season,” Higgins added. “We've had moments where we've been really strong and others that are, to be honest, not typical for Aggie Golf. It's been a struggle at times, but right now I think we're playing our best golf. Hopefully, we're beginning to peak at the right time. That's what this tournament is supposed to do, kick off our home stretch and get us ready for postseason play.”
Live scoring for the event can be found on GolfStat.com and live updates are available on twitter via @AggieMensGolf.
“I think this event has become one of college golf's premier tournaments in our area of the country,” Higgins said. “We get to play at a great facility here at Traditions and the Aggie Invitational gives us the chance to show it off.”
