Yates Among Standouts at Collegiate Showcase

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Texas A&M senior golfer Greg Yates is among 14 of the country's top collegiate golfers who will compete in an 18-hole shootout on Monday at the Riviera Country Club with the goal of earning an exemption into the PGA's Northern Trust Open.
“This is a really cool concept that the PGA Tour has come up with, melding professional and college golf together,” Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. “I think it's going to be great for our sport.”
Each collegiate player in the field will team up with a PGA Tour player as well as two amateurs who represent their respective university in the inaugural Collegiate Showcase. Yates will be paired alongside Aggie pro Ryan Palmer.
The college golfer with the lowest 18-hole score will receive a spot in the Northern Trust Open three days later. The pro and two amateurs, meanwhile, will compete for a $50,000 donation to their alma mater.
“This is the first year of the event, so we're all anxious to see how it goes,” Higgins added. “Going forward, I think that it is something that will really promote our sport as well as give us some publicity and attention. It's great for college golf and if Greg can happen to win it and get a spot in the Northern Trust Open, that's even better.”
The PGA's Northern Trust Open will take place at The Riviera Country Club Feb. 18-22.
