After notching their biggest road win of the conference season on Thursday, No. 15 Texas A&M returns home to host Florida in the BTHO Breast Cancer Game on Sunday, February 22 at 3 p.m.
The game is broadcast on SEC Network, with Fran Harris, who played for Gary Blair at South Oak Cliff High School, and Nell Fortner, who was an assistant coach under Gary Blair at Stephen F. Austin. Authenticated users, which includes DirecTV subscribers as of this week, can also access the game via WatchESPN on their computers, tablets and mobile phones.
Listeners can tune into the game on the Texas A&M Sports Network, available in Bryan-College Station on WTAW 1620 AM, with Gabe Bock and Tap Bentz on the call. Fans can also tune into that broadcast on 12thMan.com or on the Radio Aggieland app.
The Aggies are coming off of a convincing 81-69 win at No. 11 Kentucky on Thursday night, which vaults Texas A&M into a tie for third place in the SEC standings, and puts the Aggies in control of their own destiny in terms of earning a double-bye in the Southeastern Conference tournament. All five Aggie starters scored in double figures on Thursday.
This is also the Aggies' annual BTHO Breast Cancer game, and A&M will wear white-and-pink jerseys with pink socks and shoes. Texas A&M assistant coach Bob Starkey, and his wife Sherie, a breast cancer survivor, will donate $1 for each Texas A&M student in attendance, with a goal of 1,000 students.
Florida features a balanced attack, with six players averaging 7.1 or more points on the season. In the Gators' previous outing, Ronni Williams had 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three blocks, but Florida fell in overtime to Vanderbilt after erasing a 12-point deficit in the second half.
This is only the third meeting between the teams in SEC play, but the Aggies and Gators met in the First Round of the 1994 NCAA Tournament, in what was the first postseason game in A&M history. The game, originally scheduled for Florida's O'Connell Center, had to be moved to College Station due to a conflict with a Rod Stewart concert. The 13th-seeded Aggies became the lowest seeded team to win a NCAA First Round game, defeating fourth-seeded Florida 78-76. Current Florida head coach Amanda Butler scored 15 points in the game.
The Aggies conclude the homestand, and the home portion of the regular season, with Senior Night on Thursday, February 26 at 7 p.m. against Missouri.
