Texas A&M Men?s Tennis Defeats UIW

COLLEGE STATION – The No. 13 Texas A&M men's tennis team defeated Incarnate Word 6-1 at the Bryan Tennis Center Sunday afternoon. The Aggies moved to 4-1 this spring, while the Cardinals fell to 4-6 on the season.
Inclement weather force the cancellation of the noon match against Tulsa scheduled for Sunday and moved the late match indoors. Despite the late change, the Aggies took six of seven points against the Cardinals.
The maroon and white claimed the day's first point sweeping all three doubles matches. The No. 8 duo of Shane Vinsant and Harrison Adams continued their winnings ways defeating Leonard Ivic and Phillip Raickovic 6-0. No. 13 Jeremy Efferding and Jordan Szabo rebounded from their first defeat of the spring on Friday evening to clinch the doubles point. The A&M seniors bested Joey Vatanadilok and Tucker Brown 6-0.
Freshman Arthur Rinderknech continued his winning ways after clinching the Aggies upset of No. 1 Oklahoma on Friday night, the Frenchman put the second point on the board with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Josip Smoljan.
Sophomore Max Lunkin made it 3-0 in A&M's favor with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Brown followed by No. 43 Efferding clinching the A&M win with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Ivic.
Szabo kept the winning going with a straight-set victory over Joey Vatanadilok followed shortly by College Station native Frankie Colunga taking a 6-1, 6-4 win over Raickovic.
UIW's sole victory came in a third-set super tiebreaker win by Ryan Hoverson over sophomore Jett Cash.
Texas A&M will continue their nine-match home stand against No. 29 Kentucky Friday at 6 p.m. at the George P Mitchell Tennis Center.
