Mar 11, 2015 | Women's Golf
KANE'OHE, Hawai'i- For the third consecutive tournament, a member of the No. 15 Texas A&M women's golf team won an individual title, as sophomore Marijosse Navarro won her second consecutive tournament with a 213 (-3) at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational.
Navarro shot a final round 73 (+1) to win the tournament by one stroke at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course, leading three Oklahoma State golfers (Emma Broze, Kenzie Nelsen, Linnea Johansson) by one stroke. Navarro is only the sixth A&M golfer to win multiple tournaments in a season, a feat that has been accomplished seven times at Texas A&M.
This is the first time in school history that A&M has had golfers win three straight individual tournament championships. Navarro's one-stroke victory is the first victory in this stretch that did not require a playoff, as Bianca Fabrizio's win at the Florida State Match-Up and Navarro's win at the UC Irvine Invitational required extra holes.
The Aggies shot a 294 (+6) on the final day of the 54-hole tournament to finish in second place with a 870 (+6), eight strokes behind tournament champion Oklahoma State 862 (-2). The Aggies have posted a top five finish in all seven tournaments they have played this season.
Navarro was joined in the Top 10 by Bianca Fabrizio who shot a final round 73 (+1) to finish the tournament in a tie for fifth with a three-round total of 216 (E). Maddie Szeryk finished in a tie for 10th after a final round 72 (E) on the 6,099 yard / par 72 course, and a three-round total of 218 (+2).
Andrea Jonama finished in a tie for 29th after shooting 230 (+14) for the tournament and a final round 80 (+8). Thanya Pattamakijsakul shot a final round 76 (+4) to finish in 36th with a 231 (+15).
Competing as an individual, Callie Scheffler shot a final round 77 (+5) to finish T-39th with a 233 (+17). Kirby Kramer also competed as an individual, shooting a three-round total of 247 (+31) to finish in a tie for 72nd.
The Aggies return to action on Monday, March 16 to start the Arizona Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz.
