Mar 22, 2015 | Men's Tennis
COLLEGE STATION – The seventh-ranked Texas A&M men's tennis rode a wave of momentum defeating Alabama in Tuscaloosa at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility Sunday afternoon. The Aggies (11-3, 6-1 SEC) maintained a stronghold on second-place in the SEC trailing only No. 5 Georgia (14-2, 6-0).
The maroon and white rebounded from dropping the doubles point at Mississippi State last Friday winning the Sunday's first point in dominant fashion. The A&M freshman duo of AJ Catanzariti and Arthur Rinderknech got back to their winning ways, defeating Sam Edwards and Nikko Madregallejo 6-2 on court three. No. 26 Jeremy Efferding and Jordan Szabo, A&M's elder duo, clinched the point on court two 6-3 over Sean Donohue and Stuart Kenyon.
The College Station bunch once again displayed their mettle, winning the first set on four of six courts. Alabama claimed their only point on court three as Madregallejo defeated No. 48 Adams, 6-3, 6-2, to tie the match at one point apiece.
Efferding got his team back on track, defeating Becker O'Shaughnesseey 6-1, 6-2 on court two to push the Aggies ahead 2-1 on the scoreboard. The 65th-ranked Florida native improved to 5-0 in SEC play and 9-2 in dual matches.
Catanzariti chalked up the next point for his team, defeating Kenyon 6-2, 6-2 on court five. The 89th-ranked player is 6-1 against league opponents and 10-3 in duals in his first collegiate season.
No. 71 Shane Vinsant provided the clinch point for the maroon and white, the All-American from a season ago topped Korey Lovett 7-6(6), 6-3 on court one. The Keller native improved to 3-1 in league play and 13-8 on the year.
The Aggies return to the friendly confines of the Mitchell Tennis Center Friday for a SEC match-up with No. 56 Arkansas, followed by a Sunday twin bill against No. 13 Ole Miss and UTSA, at noon and 4 p.m. respectively
