No. 9 Women's Golf Completes First Round, But Play Suspended at NCAAs

BRADENTON, Fla.- Play was suspended during the afternoon flight during the 2015 NCAA Women's Golf Championships at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla., but No. 9 Texas A&M completed its first round and sits just eight shots off of the tie for the final spot in the match play quarterfinals.
The first round will be resumed at 7:30 a.m. CT on Saturday, with the second round starting at 8 a.m. CT. Texas A&M is projected to tee off its second round in the afternoon flight at approximately 12:30 p.m. CT off of Hole No. 1.
"I'm proud of how hard the girls fought on a course that featured tough hole locations and tricky greens," said Texas A&M head women's golf coach Trelle McCombs. "The girls overcame a slow start, but then recovered and bounced back nicely to finish strong."
The Aggies shot a 21-over 309 on the par 72 / 6,484 yard course to sit in a tie for 16th at the suspension of play, as 12 teams were still on the course. The Aggies are tied for seventh among the 12 teams who completed their first round on Monday. After four rounds, the top eight teams face off in a brand-new match play format to determine the sport's national champion.
The Concession Golf Club played very tough on Friday, with every school shooting above par and the scoring average of completed rounds coming in at 78.04. The course saw 176 double bogeys-or-worse at the suspension of play.
Maddie Szeryk set the pace for Texas A&M with a 4-over 76 in her first career NCAA Championship round, and was tied for 49th at the suspension of play. Szeryk played the first 16 holes of the day at even par, before carding back-to-back double bogeys to finish the round.
Marijosse Navarro and Thanya Pattamakijsakul sit in a tie for 59th after both shooting a 5-over 77 on Friday. Bianca Fabrizio was the only person to eagle Hole No. 3 in the tournament's first day, as she shot a 7-over 79 to sit in a tie for 85th. Andrea Jonama rounded out the lineup with a 17-over 89 in 131st place.
