No. 10 Texas A&M hosts No. 2 South Carolina in a huge matchup of the top two women's basketball teams in the SEC standings, and a rematch of a Jan. 17 game in Columbia that featured 19 lead changes and four ties.
The first 3,000 fans receive a BTHO SC 12th Man Towel, and fans who attended Saturday's men's basketball game against Iowa State receive free admission to Sunday's game.
ESPN2 carries the broadcast of the game, with Tiffany Greene and Carolyn Peck on the call. Authenticated users can access the game online at no extra charge on their smartphones, tablets, computers and other connected devices with the WatchESPN app.
Additionally, the game can be heard on the Texas A&M Sports Network with Gabe Bock and Tap Bentz on the call. The game broadcasts locally in Bryan-College Station on The Zone 1150 AM/102.7 FM and can also be heard on 12thMan.com/showcase or the Radio Aggieland app.
This is the sixth Top 10 matchup in Reed Arena for women's basketball, and the second-lowest combined rank of the two participants in a game. The Aggies have hosted a Top 10 matchup in five of the past six seasons, winning two of the last three such matchups.
The Aggies are looking for their third win over an AP Top 2 team, and their first since the 2011 Final Four against Stanford. The Aggies also defeated No. 2 Oklahoma on Feb. 23, 2009 inside Reed Arena.
Texas A&M has won eight of its last 10 games, but has had to come back from large or late deficits in six of those games. All of Texas A&M's last three contests have gone down to the final seconds, with senior Courtney Walker scoring the game-winning or game-tying points in the final 10 seconds of the last two games. Walker is averaging 19.1 points over her last nine games, and senior Jordan Jones has averaged 17.3 over her last three games.
South Carolina enters the game at 20-0, marking the third straight year that Texas A&M has faced a team at least 18-0. The Gamecocks feature three players averaging over 12 points per game: A'ja Wilson (16.1), Tiffany Mitchell (15.0), and Alaina Coates (12.2).
On Jan. 17, Texas A&M and South Carolina battled to a 59-58 South Carolina victory, in a game that featured 19 lead changes and four ties. The Aggies, down six with 2:34 to go, stormed back to tie the game with 2.0 seconds remaining, after Taylor Cooper threw a length-of-the-floor pass to Chelsea Jennings for a layup. However, a foul with 0.9 seconds to play sent Carolina's Khadijah Sessions to the line, where she would make the game-winning free throw.
The Aggies still hold a 3-2 edge in the all-time series against the Gamecocks, but South Carolina has won the last two meetings. Three of the five meetings have been decided in the final minute of regulation or overtime.
This is the first of five highly-anticipated home games at Reed Arena to close out the SEC season, with No. 19 Tennessee (Feb. 7, 3 p.m), No. 13 Mississippi State (Feb. 11, 6 p.m.), LSU (Feb. 18, 8 p.m.), and No. 12 Kentucky (Feb. 28, TBA) still slated to visit Reed Arena. Single-game tickets for all remaining home games are still available here: https://www.12thmanfoundation.com/ticket-center/women's-basketball.aspx .
After this game, the Aggies head to Florida on Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. for a game on SEC Network Plus before returning home on Feb. 7 to host No. 19 Tennessee at 3 p.m.
