
Texas A&M takes down Bears, stays undefeated

COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team stayed undefeated with a 125-80 takedown of the Missouri State Bears in the Aggies' first action of 2016 on Thursday at the Student Recreation Natatorium.
The Aggies will put their perfect 5-0 record on the line when they return to action against the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs at 12 noon on Friday at the Rec. Friday's clash will feature both the men's and women's teams from Texas A&M and Georgia. Admission is free.
The Aggies tallied eight victories in 11 possible races (there was no diving), with a sweep of the relays and individual wins by six different Aggies. Texas A&M swept at least the top two spots in four races, including the top four spots in two.
A&M opened the meet with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay with the foursome of senior Alexandros Theocharidis, sophomore Mauro Castillo, sophomore Brock Bonetti and junior Turker Ayar reaching the wall first in a time of 3:18.94.
The Aggies closed out the meet by sweeping the top two spots in the 400 freestyle relay. Taking the top spot was the foursome of freshman Steven Richardson, sophomore Justin Morey, freshman Connor Long and freshman Magnus Holler, and the relay of freshman Angel Martinez, sophomore Duncan Mulleady, junior Juan Rocha and freshman Mateo Gonzalez was right behind in 1:24.50.
Texas A&M swept the top four spots in the 50 free and the 200 backstroke. In the 50 free, Gonzales won in 20.73 followed by Bonetti (21.16), Richardson (21.25) and Holler (21.44). In the 200 back, Theocharidis touched first in 1:49.47, trailed by Rocha (1:49.88), sophomore Cameron Kerr (1:50.94) and Long (1:51.08).
The Aggies took the top two spots in the 200 fly with Bonetti winning in 1:49.47 and Ayar taking second in 1:52.03. Other Aggies tallying individual wins were senior Mateo Muzek in the 200 free (1:41.05), Martinez in the 500 free (4:33.55) and Castillo in the 200 breaststroke (1:59.66).
