Aggies Wrap Up Fall at Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate
Oct 20, 2016 | Men's Golf
ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Playing in its final tournament of the fall campaign, the Texas A&M men's golf team will tee off at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate on Friday morning.
Formerly known as the United States Collegiate Championships, the Georgia Collegiate is one of the nation's premier events for college golf. Hosted by Georgia Tech, the tournament will follow a 54-hole format that runs from Friday to Sunday. The first two rounds are split between the Lakeside Course (Par 72, / 7,021 yards) and the Creekside Course (Par 72 / 7,039) while the final round will be held exclusively on the Lakeside course.
The event will feature 11 teams from last season's NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore., and 10 total teams in GolfStat Top 25. Joining the Aggies in the 17-team field is current title-holder Auburn along with Clemson, Duke, East Tennessee State, Georgia Tech, LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Southern California, Stanford, Texas, TCU, UCLA, Villanova, Virginia and Wake Forest.
"This is such an incredible event with the strongest field we will face this season," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "We are playing two courses, which is new, so we're excited to see the Creekside Course. This is our last until January, so we want to finish off a fantastic fall on a high note."
The Aggies have been strong during the fall campaign, finishing in the top three of each of their tournaments while boasting the individual champion in each event. Sophomore Chandler Phillips took home top honors at the Golfweek Conference Challenge and has carded par or better in seven of nine rounds while juniors Cameron Champ and Kavan Eubank also hold individual titles on the young season.
Phillips, Champ and Eubank will represent the Aggies in Georgia along with freshman Viraj Madappa. Sophomore Brandon Smith, meanwhile, completes the Aggie lineup and will be making his first collegiate start.
The team will tee off at 8:05 a.m. (CT) Friday morning and be paired with Duke and East Tennessee State. Live scoring and results can be found on golfstat.com and as well as live updates via twitter at @AggieMensGolf.
