COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M Aggies embark on their 22nd consecutive NCAA Championship as they travel to Fort Worth to battle the TCU Horned Frogs in first round action Saturday.
The Aggies are playing in their 22nd consecutive NCAA Championship, one of five teams to play in each tournament since 1995. The other schools to make it to every tournament since 1995 are North Carolina (1982-2016), Notre Dame (1993-2016), Virginia (1994-2016) and Penn State (1995-2016). A&M is 33-21-5 (.602) all-time in the NCAA Championship. The Aggies have appeared in the Sweet Sixteen 14 times. The Maroon and White have advanced to the Elite Eight six times, including each of the last two seasons.
The Aggies earned an at-large bid with an 11-8-1 overall record and a 5-5-1 mark in SEC play. The Maroon and White finished tied for sixth in the SEC standings and advanced to the SEC Tournament quarterfinal round.
The last five games for both teams are extremely similar. Both squads won four of their last five with all five games decided by one goal. Both teams beat a Top 25 team down the stretch with Texas A&M beating then-No. 11 Auburn (2-1) and TCU beating then-No. 25 Kansas (3-2 - ot). Both teams had their conference tournament run ended by one of the nation's top two teams. The Aggies lost to No. 2 South Carolina (2-1) in the SEC Tournament quarterfinal. The Horned Frogs lost to No. 1 West Virginia (3-2 - ot) in the Big 12 Tournament championship match.
