Texas A&M sweeps Day 2 at the Art Adamson Invitational

MANSFIELD, Texas – The Texas A&M women's swimming team swept all seven events on the second day of the Art Adamson Invitational and also recorded two NCAA "A" qualifying times and nearly 20 "B" cuts on Friday at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium.

MANSFIELD, Texas – The Texas A&M women's swimming team swept all seven events on the second day of the Art Adamson Invitational and also recorded two NCAA "A" qualifying times and nearly 20 "B" cuts on Friday at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium.
 
The Aggies posted top finishes in 200-yard medley relay, the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and the 800 free relay. Texas A&M dominated the leaderboard after two days of action with 968.5 points followed by LSU (477), Boise State (379.5), Arizona State (268), SMU (233), TCU (122), and Incarnate Word (30).
 
Texas A&M opened the day with a win in the 200-yard medley relay with the foursome of junior Béryl Gastaldello, junior Jorie Caneta, senior Sarah Gibson and redshirt freshman Raena Eldridge reaching the wall in 1:37.28.
 
Texas A&M's IM swimmers conquered the field for the second straight night. The team grabbed the top three spots in the 400 IM with junior Bethany Galat leading the way with a NCAA "A" time of 4:04.36 and a guaranteed spot in the NCAA Championship meet. Sophomore Sydney Pickrem took second in 4:06.50, followed by sophomore Monika Gonzalez-Hermosillo in 4:15.11 both earning NCAA "B" qualifying cuts. Also earning a "B" cut was junior Esther Gonzalez.
 
Gibson led the team with pair of individual victories. She punched her ticket to the national meet with a NCAA "A" cut time of 51.37 in the 100 butterfly and won with "B" cut time of 1:44.37 in the 200 free.
 
Also earning "B" cuts in the 200 free were sophomore Claire Rasmus, junior Kristin Malone, junior Laura Norman and freshman Katie Portz, while Gastaldello, senior Ashley McGregor and Eldridge posted "B" standards in the 100 fly.
 
Caneta had a convincing victory in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.38 and the Aggies also received qualifying cuts from junior Franko Jonker, McGregor and Galat.
 
 
Gastaldello won the 100 backstroke in 53.25 and the Aggies also received NCAA "B" cuts from junior Laura Norman, junior Lisa Bratton and freshman Samantha Siebenaller.
The Aggies closed the day with a dominating win in the 800 free relay with the foursome of Pickrem, Rasmus, Portz and Gibson finishing in 7:06.54. Aggies earned NCAA "B" cuts with strong leadoff 200 free legs were Pickrem and freshmen Sara Metzsch and Amy Miller.
 
 
The Aggies' dive crew was competing at the Mizzou Invitational and senior captain Madison Hudkins led the way with a fourth place effort in the one-meter dive with a 299.25 point total.
