
Texas A&M women win Art Adamson team crown

MANSFIELD, Texas --- The Texas A&M women's swimming team posted victories in five of six races on Saturday while cruising to the team championship on the final day of the Art Adamson Invitational at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium.
The host Aggies scored 1,404.5 points, which was more than twice the point total of the No. 2 finisher. Finishing behind the Aggies were LSU (687), Boise State (522.5), Arizona State (390), SMU (359), TCU (162) and Incarnate Word (38).
The Aggies posted victories in the 100-yard freestyle, the 200 breaststroke, the 200 butterfly, the 1,650 free and the 400 freestyle relay. The Texas A&M dive crew, which was competing apart from the swimmers at the Mizzou Invitational, received a strong victory from sophomore Alaïs Kalonji in the platform dive. Kalonji out-classed the platform field by nearly 40 points with a score of 279.75.
Senior Sarah Gibson won a pair of races on Saturday with victories in the 100 free in 48.52 and the 200 fly in 1:54.57. Other Aggies earning NCAA "B" qualifying cuts in the 100 free were sophomore Claire Rasmus, junior Kristin Malone, freshman Amy Miller and junior Laura Norman, while junior Bethany Galat also earned a "B" cut in the 200 fly.
Guaranteeing herself of a spot at the NCAA Championships with an "A" qualifying cut was senior Ashley McGregor, who won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:07.16. McGregor led a 1-2-3-4-5 finish for the Aggies with sophomore Sydney Pickrem, Galat, junior Jorie Caneta and Esther Gonzalez all logging "B" cuts in pursuit of McGregor.
The Aggies went 1-2 in the 1,650 freestyle with senior Sycerika McMahon leading the way in 16:17.95 and junior Caitlyn Moon taking second in 16:31.12. Both times were NCAA "B" cuts.
Texas A&M closed out the meet with a victory in the 400 free relay with the foursome of Miller, Rasmus, Malone and Gibson touching the wall in 3:16.05.
