Aggie Golf Set to Tee Off at Louisiana Classics
Feb 28, 2016 | Men's Golf
LAFAYETTE, La.– Returning to the links after a strong showing in its last competition, the Texas A&M men's golf team is set to tee off at the 31st Annual Louisiana Classics beginning Monday morning on the Oakbourne Country Club.
"The Louisiana Classics is one of the oldest tournaments in college golf and we are excited to be part of an event with so much tradition and history," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "The Lafayette community really gets behind this event and makes sure the players have a great experience. We are playing pretty well and I know the boys are excited to get back on the course."
The Aggies are coming off a solid third place finish in a highly-competitive, 17-team field at the 2016 John A Burns Intercollegiate which came Feb. 17-19 in Kauai, Hawaii. A&M finished one-under par at the event and placed a pair of golfers in the individual top 10 with Adrià Arnaus (5th place, -4) and Cameron Champ (T-7th place, -2) standing out in the impressive individual field.
Arnaus and Champ highlight the Aggie lineup at the Louisiana Classics alongside seniors Ben Crancer and Andrew Lister as well as freshman Chandler Phillips. Sophomore Andrew Paysse, meanwhile, will compete as an individual.
The Louisiana Classics will follow a 54-hole format, with two rounds (36-holes) to be played on Monday, followed by the third round on Tuesday. Monday tee times will begin at 8 a.m., while Tuesday's round will start at 7:30 a.m.
Oakbourne Country Club will play at par 72 and 7,098 yards for this week's competition.
The Aggies will tee off their opening round alongside golfers from top-ranked Illinois and Louisiana with live scoring and results found on golfstat.com as well as live updates via twitter at @aggiemensgolf.
