Mar 26, 2016 | Men's Basketball
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Texas A&M's Billy Kennedy was selected District 21 Coach of the Year while seniors Danuel House and Jalen Jones were honored as second team All-District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
The honors continue to roll in for the Aggies following their breakout 2015-16 campaign which saw Texas A&M set a school record for the most wins in program history (28), claim its first regular season conference title since 1986 and advance to the Sweet 16 for the third time.
Kennedy's honor adds to a growing list of accolades bestowed upon the fifth-year Aggie coach that includes SEC Coach of the Year recognition by both the Associated Press and SEC Coaches as well as District VII Coach of the Year recognition from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.
For both House and Jones, the distinction is their second All-District honor this season as the pair was also selected to the All-District VII Team by the USBWA.
A First-Team All-SEC selection by the league's coaches, Jones stood out as one of the SEC's most consistent performers this season, ranking among the conference leaders by averaging 16.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game during SEC play. Overall, Jones contributed five double-doubles on the year and scored 20 or more points in 11 games.
House, meanwhile, was also named as an All-SEC selection for a second straight season by garnering second-team recognition after being named a first-team performer as a junior a year ago. The Fresno, Texas, native led the Aggies with a 15.6 point-per-game average while shooting 39.6 percent from the floor and compiling 77 assists, 19 steals and 11 blocked shots.
House was named a second-team All-District performer by the NABC after last season as well.
