Aggies Gear Up to Compete in Desert Mountain Intercollegiate
Mar 04, 2016 | Men's Golf
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Following a hard-fought performance at last week's Louisiana Classic, the Texas A&M men's golf team is in action in Arizona this weekend at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate, which tees off Saturday morning on the Outlaw Course.
"This is a quick turnaround, but the boys are playing well and I think they're excited to get back out there." Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "This is a completely different style of course, going from the bayou and big oak trees to the desert and cactus, but if we continue to keep it in play off the tee and stick to our plan, I think we will see similar success. We just want to be in position to win after the first day. If we continue to put ourselves in that situation, good things will happen."
The Aggies are coming off a solid third place showing at the 2016 Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La. A&M remained in contention throughout the event, finishing eleven-under par and placing three golfers in the individual top 10 – Cameron Champ (4th place, -4), Adria Arnaus (T-7th place, -2) and Chandler Phillips (T-7th place, -2).
Representing the Aggies this weekend in Arizona will be seniors Adria Arnaus, Ben Crancer and Andrew Lister, sophomore Cameron Champ and freshman Chandler Phillips. In addition, sophomore Andrew Paysse will have at his hand at the competition as an individual.
Play between the 12 teams on the course will follow a 54-hole format over two days. Saturday will consist of two rounds (36 holes) of stroke play, followed by a final round on Sunday. Tee times are set for 9 a.m. (CT) Saturday and 9:30 a.m. (CT) Sunday morning. The Outlaw Course will be set up for par 72 and 7,107 yards.
