Trinity Harrington tosses no-hitter against Stephen F. Austin
Apr 06, 2016 | Softball
COLLEGE STATION – Sophomore Trinity Harrington threw a no-hitter Wednesday as the 10th-ranked Texas A&M softball team downed Stephen F. Austin, 9-0, in five innings at the Aggie Softball Complex.
The no-hitter is the first since Katie Marks no-hit Lamar on April 30, 2014. Harrington threw five innings of work with one walk and two strikeouts on 68 pitches. The Greeley, Colo., native is now 6-1 on the season with a 1.96 ERA.
"I was really relaxed and my body felt comfortable today," Harrington said. "I think this was a better outing than last Saturday as I had quicker and a lot fewer pitches. I think this will help me get more prepared for our SEC games, especially against Tennessee. My drop ball was really working for me today. It had a lot of spin on it, but my speed wasn't quite there, but that was OK. I think my spin made up for that."
Freshman Keeli Milligan led off the first inning with a walk before recording her nation-leading 43rd stolen base of the season. Freshman Kaitlyn Alderink advanced Milligan to third, before sophomore Tori Vidales knocked in Milligan on a single to left.
A&M tacked on five runs in the second to take a 6-0 advantage. Milligan walked with the bases loaded, before Alderink cleared the bases on a triple to center. Vidales drove in Alderink on a sacrifice fly to left.
In the third, freshman Riley Sartain drew a lead-off walk and advanced to second on a Milligan single. Alderink then took a 1-1 pitch back up the middle, plating Sartain for her 30th RBI of the season.
Sophomore Ashley Walters continued her tear at the plate as the reigning SEC Player of the Week hit a two-run homer to left in the fourth to give the Aggies the 9-0 lead. In the last four games, Walters is hitting .692 with two home runs and 12 RBI.
The Aggies return to action Friday-Sunday at Tennessee. Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. CT and Sunday's game is slated for a 12:30 CT start. Both games can be seen on SEC Network +, available through WatchESPN and the ESPN app.
Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CT and can be seen on ESPNU.
All three games can be heard locally on KWBC 1550 AM or online at www.RadioAggieland.com.
