COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 8 Texas A&M Aggies return to action Sunday with a 6 pm match against the Rice Owls at Ellis Field.
Texas A&M is coming off a spirited effort as they dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 1 Florida State despite owning advantages in shots (11-10), shots-on-goal (4-2) and corner kicks (6-4).
The Maroon and White are looking to extend an impressive string against Lone Star foes. The Aggies are 24-0-5 (.914) against in-state rivals since 2008, including an 11-0-4 record against their former Big 12 Conference colleagues. Last season, Texas A&M went 3-0-0 against teams from Texas, toppling Rice (4-2), Abilene Christian (4-1) and North Texas (2-1).
Rice had their season opener at SMU washed out due to inclement weather.
On Sunday night, Texas A&M will face an Aggie legend as Nicky (Thrasher) Adams skippers the Rice Owls. Last fall, Adams was inducted into the Texas A&M Lettermen's Association Hall of Fame. The former Nicky Thrasher while at Texas A&M from 1997-2001, Adams was a star forward that helped guide the Aggies to three Big 12 Conference titles and an NCAA Championship Elite Eight appearance.
