Aggie Golfers Return to Competition at Arizona Collegiate
Jan 22, 2017 | Men's Golf
TUSCON, Ariz. – Making their return to competition following the winter break, the Texas A&M men's golf team tees off at the Arizona Intercollegiate Monday morning.
The event will open on Monday with the 18-team field hitting the par-72 7,262 yard Sewailo Golf Club for 36 holes beginning with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. (CT). The event wraps up on Tuesday with the final 18 holes teeing off at 9:30 a.m. (CT).
"This start is a little earlier than usual for us so I'm anxious to see how we do playing right off the bat," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "I guess everyone is in the same boat so we will see how it goes. We have played in The Arizona Intercollegiate before but this is the first time at Sewailo. I have heard nothing but good things about the course and the field is pretty strong. It's just exciting to tee it up again and get back on the road with the guys. We are looking forward to a good trip and a great spring."
The Aggies join host school Arizona in the 18-team field alongside BYU, California, Denver, Gonzaga, Iowa State, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Oregon, Pepperdine, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois, UCLA, UTEP and Washington.
The five-man A&M lineup includes sophomore Chandler Phillips, the Aggies stroke leader on the season, and junior Cameron Champ, who is coming off a title over the winter break at the Patriot All-America Invitational. Additionally, sophomore Brandon Smith and junior Andrew Paysse will be both be making their second starts of the season and Dan Erickson, who after signing his letter of intent in November, will be making his first appearance for Texas A&M.
Separate from the main competition, there will also be individual participants playing at another course. These rounds begin on Sunday from Starr Pass Golf Club with Kavan Eubank, Max Miller and Josh Gilege representing Texas A&M.
The Aggies will tee off their opening round alongside golfers from Arizona, California and New Mexico. Live scoring and results can be found on golfstat.com and as well as live updates via twitter at @AggieMensGolf.
