Texas A&M takes second at Orange Bowl Swim Classic

KEY LARGO, Fla. – The Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team won a pair of races and placed second in the team race at the Orange Bowl Swim Classic on Tuesday at the Jacobs Aquatics Club.
The Aggies accumulated 183 points and were second behind the Michigan Wolverines with 275 points. The Wolverines have won the event eight of the last nine years. Rounding out the team standings were George Mason and Middlebury College.
Grabbing race victories for the Aggies were junior Brock Bonetti and senior Cory Bolleter. Bonetti, from Bakersfield, Calif., won the 50-meter backstroke in a time of 24.68, while Bolleter, from San Antonio, Texas, tied for first in the 50 freestyle in 22.53.
The Aggies opened and closed the day with runner-up finishes in the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay. The foursome of Bonetti, junior Mauro Castillo, senior Turker Ayar and Bolleter touched in 1:39.85 in the 200 medley relay and the team of Bolleter, senior Jacob Gonzales, freshman Adam Koster and freshman Raiz Tjon-A-Joe finished in 1:30.60 in the 200 free relay.
Aggies earning top four finishes were freshman Benjamin Walker in the 400 free (4th in 3:58.88), sophomore Angel Martinez in the 50 butterfly (3rd in 24.74), Bonetti in the 100 back (2nd in 54.29), Castillo in the 50 breast (4th in 28.88), Koster in the 100 free (3rd in 51.03), Gonzalez in the 100 free (4th in 51.59), Ayar in the 100 fly (3rd in 54.38), junior Jonathan Tybur in the 100 breast (4th in 1:03.10) and sophomore Mateo Gonzalez in the 200 IM (2nd in 2:05.47).
