Arconada Advances at the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships

INDIAN WELLS, CA –Senior Jordi Arconada of Texas A&M men's tennis advanced to the second round of the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships Wednesday afternoon at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California.
No. 36 Arconada defeated No. 49 Billy Griffith of Cal 7-5, 6-1 to advance to Thursday's second round against No. 43 Alexis Galarneau of NC State at 12:30 p.m. (CT) on Thursday. The Buenos Aires, Argentina native, took an early lead in the first set at 3-1, but dropped the next four games to fall behind 5-3 late in the first stanza. Arconada bounced back from the deficit to win 10 of the next 11 games and claim the match.
Arconada earned the No. 15 seed at the premier fall tournament of the collegiate tennis season after an impressive fall campaign. The right-hander advanced to the ITA Regional semifinals in College Station before falling to No. 40 Johannes Schretter of Baylor.
No. 93 Valentin Vacherot fell 6-4, 6-1 to Kevin Konfederak of Georgia Gwinnett in Wednesday's first round. The Frenchman earned a berth in the Fall Championships after advancing to the ITA Men's All-American Championship consolation finals earlier this month in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Vacherot danced through the consolation bracket with wins over a trio of ranked players including a pair of Georgia Bulldogs. The sophomore is set to take on No. _ Walker Duncan of Georgia in the Consolation draw in the Sunshine State Thursday at 2:45 p.m. (CT).
The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships features a 64-player singles draw, while doubles consist of a 32-team draw. Matches will take place at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Players qualified for the tournament through designated placings at earlier ITA National Championships and the ITA Regional Championships Presented by Oracle.
