Bratton sets school record as Texas A&M women win Art Adamson Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team won three events, highlighted by Lisa Bratton breaking her own school record, Saturday en route to winning the Art Adamson Invitational at the Student Recreation Natatorium.
The Aggies won the meet with a final score of 1273.5. No. 1 Stanford finished second with 1053 points, followed by Arizona State (375), Arkansas (281) and Hawaii (262).

"We had some great swims. The purpose of this meet right now is to give our swimmers a chance to go fast and get some NCAA cuts out of the way. We definitely got a bunch of them. We had a really good meet, so I am very pleased."

- Texas A&M tallied victories in the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke.
- Tallying NCAA "A" cuts and guaranteeing their spots at the 2018 NCAA Championships were senior Lisa Bratton in the 200 back, junior Sydney Pickrem and senior Bethany Galat in the 200 breast.
- Bratton shattered her own school record in the 200 back by over a half a second with a time of 1:50.10. Her previous time of 1:50.64 was set at the 2016 SEC Championships.

- Platform diving: Alias Kalonji led Texas A&M with a NCAA zone qualifying score of 246.85.
- 1650 yard freestyle: Haley Yelle was the top Aggie finisher, placing fourth with a NCAA "B" cut time of 16:18.21. Stanford's Katie Ledecky won the race with an American record time of 15:03.31.
- 200-yard backstroke: Bratton opened the evening session with a win, clocking a school-record time of 1:50.10, good for a NCAA "A" cut. Other Aggies achieving NCAA "B" cuts were Pickrem (1:54.46), Sara Metzsch (1:55.43), Laura Norman (1:59.67) and Tiffany Futscher (1:57.54).
- 100 yard freestyle: Four Aggies placed in the top five, led by Beryl Gastaldello, who won with a NCAA "B" cut time of 47.77. Joining Gastaldello with "B" cut times were Claire Rasmus (48.41), who finished second, third-place finisher Lauren Pitzer (48.60), Kristin Malone (48.61), who took fourth, Katie Portz (49.30), Golf Sapianchai (49.41) and McKenna DeBever (49.80).
- 200 yard breaststroke: Pickrem and Galat finished first and second with NCAA "A" cut times of 2:05.96 and 2:06.52, respectively. Other Aggies achieving NCAA "B" cuts were Esther Gonzalez (2:08.32), Jorie Caneta (2:08.91), Anna Belousova (2:08.97), Monika Gonzalez-Hermosillo (2:13.23) and Victoria Roubique (2:14.55).
- 200 yard butterfly: Galat led the Aggies with a third-place finish with a time of 1:55.01. Joining Galat with NCAA "B" cut times: Jing Quah (1:55.46), Taylor Pike (1:56.18) and Tiffany Futscher (1:58.44).
- 400 yard freestyle relay: The foursome of Katie Portz, Rasmus, Malone and Gastaldello placed second with a NCAA qualifying time of 3:14.38.
